Murder, She Wrote
Murder, She Wrote was a popular television series starring Angela Lansbury. Fans of the show, no doubt, recognize the beautiful Blair House as Jessica Fletcher’s home in the fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine. Universal Studios broadcasted 264 episodes of Murder, She Wrote over an almost 12-year period of time, and nine of these episodes were filmed in Mendocino. The Blair House exterior was featured regularly, although the interior was filmed elsewhere. Other locations around Mendocino continued to be used for stock footage during the show’s history.

Mendocino residents looked forward to the filming schedule each spring, and it wasn’t uncommon to see the cast and crew mingling or interacting with the town’s residents. It is estimated the series brought in over two million dollars for the local economy, and generous donations were also made to various local service groups and organizations.
Lansbury said Mendocino was chosen as the film location because of cost, stating it was too expensive to film in rural Maine. In addition, the architecture of Mendocino matched the quaint architecture of Maine, making it easy to transform local buildings into Cabot Cove businesses. Nowadays, visitors to the area can still see remnants of this time gone by with signs such as “The Hill House of Cabot Cove” still standing in the town.
The iconic house that was Jessica’s home has an idyllic location overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It features classic Victorian details such as ornate woodwork. The house has become a popular tourist attraction over the years, and it’s easy to see why. The house is a beautiful reminder of the past, and it’s also the perfect setting for a good mystery
